As a former auger cart operator I enjoyed the corn picking taking place across the road from SBLCH. The auger cart was always in the right place, not once did I see the combine sitting with a pile of corn on top. A beautiful day hope the farmers saw the rainbow!

Last month Jim got me two new hens. There was alot of pecking going on in the beginning but they have adjusted. They are Rhode Island Reds and are egg-cellant layers.

After some research I concluded Nugget died of natural causes.

Jim built me a chicken coop for these chickens given to me by Eldon Childress. Eldon also gave me a rooster we called Roho.

I remember two things about these chickens:

1. We had a eclipse of the sun and they each laid two eggs in one day. (Eldon told me they would)

2. I forgot to shut the coop door one night and that was the end of my chickens.

The girls trying out the new feeder Jim made out of pvc pipe. Works good and holds several days of feed. I'm using a heated pet bowl to keep the water thawed out. Egg production is up and life is good in the hen house.

Patty showed me the plants in her garden damaged from over-spray of farm chemical. In all her years of planting a garden next to farm fields this was the first time this has ever happened.

I'm sure Holli remembers riding her bike on the road and being sprayed with farm chemical from a crop duster plane.

Just down the road... around the bend,
Stands an old empty barn; nearing the end.
It has sheltered no animals for many years;
No dairy cows, no horses, no sheep, no steers.
The neigh of a horse; the low of a cow;
Those sounds have been absent for some time now.
There was a time when the loft was full of hay,
And the resounding echoes of children at play.
At one time the paint was a bold shade of red;
Gradually faded by weather and the sun overhead.
The doors swing in the wind... the hinges are loose,
Windows and siding have taken a lot of abuse.
The fork, rope and pulleys lifted hay to the mow,
A task that always brought sweat to the brow.
But those good days are gone; forever it seems,
And that old barn now stands with sagging beams.
It is now home to pigeons, rats and mice;
The interior is tattered and doesn't look very nice.
Old, abandoned barns have become a trend,
Just down the road... around the bend.
